In this episode, Susan Guthrie speaks with Author, Speaker and Activist, Emma Johnson, the Founder of Wealthy Single Mommy, about the highly charged topic of fully equal shared parenting and why it needs to become the norm in families.

There are few topics that raise more emotion among parents than the issue of shared parenting time or 50/50 parenting.  When parents separate, they must work out a plan that involves their children being raised in two households and often they find they have very different ideas of what is best for their kids.  Enter Emma Johnson, Founder of Wealthy Single Mommy and Moms for Shared Parenting, who is a leading activist in the equal parenting movement who is here to challenge the long-held societal norms that we hold so close.  The belief that children are best served when they are mostly with their mother and less with their father is still deeply embedded in many parents hearts and minds as they negotiate their parenting time.  Emma recently conducted a Single Mom and Income Survey which mined data from thousands of single mothers and other sources which shows that, among other key take-aways, kids do best when they are with their parents equally and the only way to close the gender pay gap is to have equally shared parenting responsiblity between the genders.

This is a fascinating discussion of so many key points that counter the societal norms of parenting, equality and gender roles.  This episode is a must listen for everyone, not just parents going through divorce, and Emma Johnson is the voice of change that we all need to hear!
