This week on Divorce & Beyond, Dr. Debi Silber, the Founder of the Post-Betrayal Transformation Institute is back to visit with Host, Susan Guthrie, and she is here to help you break free from the victim mentality that can accompany the betrayal of a loved one, including adultery and financial infidelity.

There are many valid reasons to remain in this space but they will keep you from moving forward and beyond the betrayal to live a healthy and happy life.
In this episode, Dr. Debi outlines the four stages of the process and shares tips and insights into the "whys" and "hows" of healing and learning to trust again. She herself has been down the path and healed and that in and of itself is a story worth listening to this episode for!

On this week's episode, Host Susan Guthrie is joined by top family law attorney, Holly Davis, to discuss the fascinating celebrity divorce of Ben and Julianna Zobrist, which has been playing out for months in the media with allegations of fraud. Susan and Holly unpack the claims and bring a dose of reality into the conversation to help you to understand the role of fraud in divorce.
Former Chicago Cubs pitcher, Ben Zobrist has been very vocal in his allegations and claims of fraud in his divorce proceeding but is any of it true and if it is, what effect does it actually have on the divorce? Top family law attorney, Holly Davis discussed the facts of the case and what the legal effect of Ben's position is when it comes to a final judgment from the court. It is not unusual for a disgruntled spouse to cast aspersions on their ex, but is it just legal positioning or will it actually affect the outcome and sway the judge in court? Find out in this fascinating episode!
Some of the topics we discuss:
- Judges are supposed to be neutral, but will facts like this tend to push them to one party's side?
- How can an allegation of fraud play out in a divorce case? Does it become a separate case, or do the two legal cases become combined?
- How would a finding of fraud manifest in a final divorce decree?
- How commonly does fraud come up in divorce cases?
- Does having an affair increase the risk of being accused of fraud in a divorce proceeding?
- Can Zobrist make any other claims, like "mental anguish"?

November marks the start of Family Court Awareness Month and in this week's episode, Susan Guthrie is joined by Tina Swithin, the driving force behind the movement and the founder of One Mom's Battle, which grew out of her epic 10-year divorce battle with her narcissistic ex-husband.
Family Courts are challenged in so many ways with overworked judges and staff, limited support and resources and a public dealing with high emotion and financial strain. When you add high conflict into the mix, it can truly be a perfect storm for disaster and Tina Swithin know this all too well. Her decade long struggle through the family courts with her divorce and post-divorce custody issues with her narcissistic ex, gave her insights and an understanding of the system, and it's shortcomings and failures, that not many people experience. Tina ultimately was able to represent herself in court and to terminate her exes parental rights, in an effort to protect her children and she is passionate about sharing her wisdom and experience with others. Tina wrote her book, Divorcing a Narcissist: One Mom's Battle, which is now a website, program and community, to help those who need help as they navigate the broken family court system. She also was the driving force behind establishing Family Court Awareness Month, intended to bring awareness to the shortcomings of the family law court system and spark conversation and change for the benefit of the children involved.
In this episode, Tina covers her top questions to ask yourself to prepare to divorce a narcissist and protect your kids - don't miss it!

In this episode Host, Susan Guthrie, chats with two of the co-founders of Vesta Divorce, Deanna Coyle and Samantha Vona, about the importance of finding and building the correct team of professionals to support you through your divorce
One of the most common memories people share about their divorce is just how very ALONE they felt as they went through the process. Indeed, the process can be very isolating and that feeling alone will make what is already difficult even harder to get through. Both Deanna Coyle and Samantha Vona have experienced that sense of loneliness that divorce can bring in their own lives and it led them to join forces to create Vesta Divorce, an essential resource and place to find your trusted team. They have built a better way to navigate the divorce process by providing direct access to what you need through complimentary events and concierge services, vetted, expert professionals, and a compassionate community of support. Come and listen in and we promise, you won't feel alone anymore!

More Information About This Week's Special Guests:
Deanna Coyle is Co-Founder, Concierge Manager, and Leader of Ancillary Professionals. As a mother who has gone through a long and financially and emotionally draining divorce, Deanna understands how isolating and frustrating the divorce process can be. Her challenging divorce led her to create divorce programs that educate, empower, and guide people in navigating the crucial decisions and considerations during and after divorce. In 2015, Deanna left her successful financial planning business to work exclusively on creating Vesta.
Deanna helps Vesta’s clients connect with experienced and caring professionals in the areas of divorce and self-care that best suit their needs. She is dedicated to transforming the divorce process by helping people avoid courtroom battles and the resulting anger, resentment, and hurt that affect all involved. She is focused on the emotional, financial, and physical health and well-being of both parents and children.
Samantha Vona is a Co-Founder of Vesta. As a child of divorce at the age of three, Samantha watched not only her parents but many other family members get divorced over her lifetime. Samantha is passionate about helping families make informed decisions instead of emotionally driven decisions. She enjoys speaking with parents about her experience, and how she turned part of her identity into a focus to help others during what can be a difficult life transition.
With a background in finance and trained as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA), she is especially passionate about making sure people understand their financial options in divorce and beyond. Samantha understands the value of a team approach to help clients make decisions that positively impact themselves and their families.
At Vesta, we have built a better way for people to navigate the divorce process by providing consolidated access to expert guidance, professional counseling (emotional, legal, financial), and a community of support. Our localized Hubs in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and South Carolina offer no-cost events, concierge services, and vetted professionals from the range of services needed during divorce, including legal, financial, real estate, wellness, and mortgage specialists. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and this week host Susan Guthrie speaks with Attorney Uswah Khan who has helped scores of victims of abuse obtain restraining orders in order protect themselves, and their children, from suffering further at the hands of their abusers.
On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. Restraining orders offer one of the few tools that a victim has to try to protect themselves from ongoing abuse but getting a restraining order can be scary, confusing and complicated. To make matters worse, many victims cannot afford to retain an attorney to help them navigate the court process making it even more difficult to apply for relief. Attorney Uswah Khan has spent the past few years representing and assisting victims of domestic violence as the staff attorney at The Center for Family Justice in Connecticut. In this episode, Uswah demystifies the process of obtaining a restraining order and walks you through the steps so that you are empowered to get the protection that you, and your children, need. This episode truly will save lives!
If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic or intimate partner violence please contact The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or Text "START" to 88788
For more information on the Family Justice Center Alliance, which develops and supports Family Justice Centers that help survivors and their children find the services they need in ONE place visit: https://www.familyjusticecenter.org
About this week's special guest:

In this week's episode, Host Susan Guthrie is joined by Child Specialist, Kathleen Zumpano, who is an expert and pioneer in techniques and methods for safely bringing the voices of children into the divorce process.
Divorce professionals the world over shudder at the thought of children being put in the middle of their parents' divorces. We have nightmares about that question, "Which parent do you want to live with?" so for ages the prevailing wisdom has been to keep the children as far from the courtroom and professionals as possible, but then aren't they somewhat lost in the process? Kathleen Zumpano, MA, LMFT believes passionately that the voices of children should be heard when divorce affects truly every aspect of their lives - BUT IT MUST DONE SAFELY! Kathleen specializes in child-inclusive mediation, which includes individual, private meetings with the children, to ensure that feedback given to parents includes the child's own experiences and feelings. She shares important insights and information on this child centered process that will open your mind, and your heart, to the possibilities!
This is a very important episode for all parents going through divorce AND the professionals who assist them!
SPECIAL GIFT: To download copies of Kathleen's FREE resource on “The Voice of the Child” and “A Child’s Experience” visit her website at www.kathleenzumpano.com!
FOR DIVORCE PROFESSIONALS: Kathleen will be holding a special workshop on The Voice of the Child: Bringing the Voices of Children into the Divorce Process on October 21, 2021 - JOIN US!
This workshop will introduce participants to the best practices of incorporating a child’s voice into divorce proceedings to improve outcomes for families and without putting children in the middle. There are prevailing international protocols for working with children, this workshop will provide an overview of research, as well as introduce participants to tools for screening parents, determining the level of involvement of the child, how information is elicited and how to prepare parents to hear feedback and information regarding their child/ren.

In this very special 100th episode of Divorce & Beyond, Host Susan Guthrie is joined by the CEO of The High Conflict Institute, Megan Hunter, to help tackle one of the most difficult issues in divorce: trying to co-parent with a narcissist or other high conflict person.
Divorce is hard under the best of circumstances, but for most people, it will come to an end and their lives will smooth out and they will go forward with their lives and even co-parent peacefully for the most part, but then there are the high conflict cases. The ones where your ex tries to turn the kids against you, drags you back to court every other week and continues to cause chaos and havoc in your life no matter how long ago the divorce was finalized. How do you survive that High-Conflict Co-Parenting paradigm and more importantly, how do you help your kids through it all?
Megan Hunter, the CEO of The High Conflict Institute with Co-Founder, Bill Eddy, is here to help with her book: The High-Conflict Co-Parenting Survival Guide! Megan shares invaluable advice and practical strategies on ways to manage your anger, stress, fear and worry as you continue to have to maintain a co-parenting relationship with a narcissist or other high conflict person. Listen to this episode and you WILL have HOPE and a game-plan for the future!
As a special offer for this 100th episode, Susan is giving away a copy of Megan's book, The High Conflict Co-Parenting Survival Guide! Want to enter? Just send an email to divorceandbeyondpod@gmail.com with a short statement of why you listen to Divorce & Beyond and we will pick a winner in the second week of October!
