On this episode Susan Guthrie, Esq. speaks with Coach, Podcast Host and the Author of "Soar," Pamela Savino, on a topic perfectly timed for the tough times that can occur in divorce and on a broader scope, are occuring in the world at large as COVID, societal unrest and financial difficulties create stress and strain in our lives every day. Pam's decision to move through the tough times in her divorce by stepping into her own authentic life will inspire you and help you as you face your own challenging times!
A few years back, Pam Savino and her husband decided to divorce. As she shares in her wonderful book, Soar, there was nothing "bad" happening, but the relationship was not working for either of them. The news left friends and family shocked as they were that picture postcard perfect family who "had it all" but they knew that it was the right choice for them. That is not to say that the divorce was not full of tough times, there were plenty, and Pam shares several stories that may sound very familiar to you such as telling the kids, dealing with the 'til death do us part issue and keeping the divorce a secret from everyone until the time was right. Pam's lessons on leaving behind the life that society and other people tell you is right, and stepping into your own authentic self, perhaps for the very first time, is the true path through the hard times ahead to a a happier and more fulfilled life!
Some highlights from this episode:
- Find out how Pam, and not her attorney, "drove the bus" in the divorce process and how Pam found the strength to make those "big decisions." (7:35)
- What does "living authentially" mean for Pam and why does she think it is the key to getting through those tough moments in divorce and in life? (9:17)
- Where does the shift from inauthentic to authentic living happen? (11:50)
- Why does Pam say that in the challenging moments that is when we find our greatness? (15:45)
- Why were the first 15 seconds of telling the kids about the divorce the most important? (20:20)
- What is a "soul contract" and how did it help Pam to explain the divorce to her daughter? (27:00)
- The questions to ask yourself to "reframe" your tough moments: (35:40)
What am I meant to learn from this?
How can I allow this experience to become a better person?
Instead of choosing hate or anger, how can I choose compassion?
There are just so many moments in our life where change, difficulty and adversity make us stronger and help us to define what is truly authentic for our own lives so take a listen today and let Pam help you to find your way to your AUTHENTIC LIFE!
More About This Week's Guest: Pamela Savino is pursuing her spiritual calling with an unparalleled fervor. She relentlessly helps others find their voice, speak their truth, and live authentically via several modalities. She is the founder of Live Authentically, a life-coaching business, author of SOAR, and she recently started a podcast called the Live Authentically show, whose guests include other people who are also committed to playing a role in raising collective consciousness and helping people discover the essence of who they are. She is also an advocate for plant-based eating and partners with others to spread the plant-based message internationally.
Her wish for everyone in this world is that we all live deeply fulfilling and authentic lives. Achieving this goal often requires radical change, and she is vowing to embody, embrace and model this change to inspire others to find their own voice and leave this world a better place than we found it.

What if we told you that you could reunify with your alienated child in just FOUR DAYS?! Sounds too good to be true doesn't it? The good news is that in this episode, Susan Guthrie, Esq. speaks with Dorcy Pruter, the Founder of the Conscious Co-Parenting Institute, who has a 100% success rate in recovering children in their 4-day workshop!
Parental alienation is one of the most heartbreaking and intractible issues that can arise in a family and historically, courts, attorneys and therapists have struggled to change the paradigm. Even when an alienated parent files all the motions and gets all the forensic reports, everything takes so long that it often seems pointless. That is where Dorcy and her coaches and professionals come in. They have different programs that are all successful in bringing families back together and allowing targeted parents to reunify with their children - even after years of separation. This episode is the doorway to hope and a path to regaining their children for so many parents and children who have been out there suffering for years!
Some Highlights from this Episode:
What is "parental alienation" and why do Susan and Dorcy put "air quotes" around the term?
Discover how alienation is actually a form of both child abuse and intimite partner abuse.
Hear why some families actually AGREE in mediation to enter into the Conscious Co-Parenting Reunification workshop.
Why do you need a protective custody order to get the process started and how do you do that?
What needs to happen after the first 4-day workshop to insure that the kids stay recovered?
How do you get reluctant children to participate?
AND MUCH, MUCH, MORE so don't miss this episode!
More about this week's guest, DORCY PRUTER: The Founder and CEO of Conscious Co-Parenting Institute a Dorcy Inc. Company. Through re-unification coaching and co-parent education, Dorcy provides strategies and solutions for parents and children to reconnect or stay connected during and after a high conflict divorce. Dorcy has extensive experience in all aspects of Parental Alienation from her own personal experience as a child, as a divorced conscious co-parent of two beautiful daughters, and through relationships where her significant other was being alienated from his child.
Dorcy has a Coaching Certification and a Certification in Mediation and High Conflict Resolution, and is Certified to teach several different parenting curriculum including training and working with Jayne Major Ph.D. After teaching for several years, Dorcy has combined some of the best of the training and parenting classes and has written a more powerful new curriculum focused on the challenges facing parents who are struggling through parental alienation and high conflict divorce. Dorcy works with most of the industry leaders on solving the crisis of pathogenic parenting, otherwise known as “parental alienation” that plagues our families. These methodologies are counterintuitive and Dorcy’s extensive work in helping people build better relationships has evolved into the Conscious Co-Parenting Institute.
As Dorcy mentions in the espisode, you can access more information and a number of FREE resources on her website at www.consciouscoparentinginstitute.com. You can also reach the Institute at 888-379-7279 or by emailing them at clientcare@coparentinginstitute.com.

"Everything is negotiable. Whether or not the negotiation is easy is another question." - Carrie Fisher
Whether it is negotiating with the plumber who is going to fix your toilet, your twelve year old over cleaning her room or with your boss for a raise, we negotiate matters big and small every day. The difference is, when we sit down at the table to negotiate our divorce settlement with our soon to be ex-spouse, the emotions are high and the decisions can be some that will impact our lives and our family for years to come. We worry that we aren't up to the task but that is where Professor Andrea Schneider can help. She literally wrote THE book that teaches lawyers how to negotiate. Negotiation Essentials for Lawyers! In fact, Professor Schneider gives negotiation trainings around the world to law school students, corporations, law firms, court systems, and even other faculty and she is here to help you get ready for your divorce negotiation. Host Susan Guthrie and Professor Schneider review all the steps you need to take to arrive at the best settlement that you can, from pre-negotiation preparation to how to get your spouse to agree to what you want. This is essential listening not just for those who are divorcing, but really everyone, because these skills are necessary every day and in every way!
Some Highlights from this episode:
- Find out why you may already have more negotiation skills than you think you do.
- What happens in a negotiation that gives you a signal that you need to pay attention because this is important?
- Why are the steps you take BEFORE the negotiation some of the most important and what are they?
- How do your goals, interests and limits play into your negotiation strategy?
- What does BOBO stand for and why do you need to know?
- How is a bicycle like the negotiation process?
And so much more that will help you to negotiate a divorce agreement that works for you!
More about this week's guest: Professor Andrea Schneider joined the faculty of Marquette University Law School in 1996. She teaches ADR, Negotiation, Ethics, and International Conflict Resolution. She is the inaugural director of the Institute for Women’s Leadership at Marquette University and also serves as the Director of the nationally ranked ADR program at Marquette University Law School.
Professor Schneider is the author or co-author of numerous books and book chapters in the field of dispute resolution. Motherhood. The word alone is emotionally charged and the role of a mother has been prescribed and defined for centuries as the primary caregiver and nurturer, but over the years, society has layers so many more labels and strictures on the role. What makes a good mother? Why must there be a definition and why is there such stigma if a mother does not fit the societal norm?
Our guest this week, Susan Eckstein, is a non-conforming mother who bravely shares her story of breaking the mold and redefining motherhood in a way that worked best for her family and that allowed her to show up as her best self for her children. Along the way, she faced shame, both internal and external, and pain as others, particularly women, dismissed and condemned her decisions. Susan has come forward to tell the tale of her journey in order to help other mothers, who face difficult decisions about parenting their children in the way that allows both mother and child to thrive. This is a story that needs to be told and we all need to listen.
Highlights from this episode:
- What factors led to Susan's decision that her boys should live with their Dad?
- How did the phrase "keep the keys" help the family to restructure in a healthy way?
- Who were the worst critics of Susan's decision to be a non-custodial mother?
- How did a business coach help Susan to find her way out of her struggle with shame?
- How can you throw out society's scorecard for motherhood to show up as your best self for your kids?
This is the story no one will talk about but Susan bravely shares her journey so that we can all be better parents and live happier lives. Listen.
More about this week's guest: Susan Eckstein is an empowerment coach and speaker helping divorced moms lead with their values so they can define motherhood for themselves. Susan leads her clients through a life-changing empowerment process where they challenge their stories, change their beliefs, step into their badassery and show up more powerfully for their children. After becoming a non-custodial mother following her divorce, Susan felt ashamed for years. However, once she stopped measuring her worth against what society says is a gold-star mother, she empowered herself and created her own unique relationship with her two boys. Susan now helps other divorced moms release their shame, reconnect to their power and define motherhood for themselves. A former mindset coach, personal trainer and triathlon coach, Susan has coached hundreds of men and women to successfully compete in their dream athletic events, including triathlons, marathons and adventure races. She is also a three-time Ironman Louisville finisher.

The wedding vows say "'til death do us part" but divorce changes everything and that means everything has to change - including your estate planning! In this week's episode, Susan Guthrie speaks with Attorney Rebecca Wallenfelsz, leading Trusts & Estates Attorney, about all of the issues and factors that are affected when the marital relationship ends.
Estate planning includes your Last Will & Testament and those decisions about who gets all your stuff after you die, but there is so much more involved in pulling together a proper plan and not all of it is just about what happens when you die. Attorney Rebecca Wallenfelsz has been helping individuals and families to structure their estate planning for almost 25 years and she shares all of the many factors that go into an all-inclusive plan, including disability, guardianship, healthcare matters and yes, who will get your estate when you pass away. Whether you have a plan in place already, or have never created an estate plan, it is all upended when there is a divorce and there are critical actions to take both DURING the divorce and AFTER! This is a must listen episode for everyone who is contemplating divorce, is going through divorce or who has recently finalized their divorce. LISTEN TODAY!
Highlights from this Episode:
- What are the things to think about in Estate Planning when you are starting a divorce?
- What happens to your prior estate planning documents when your divorce is finalized?
- Why is executing a new Power of Attorney so important even before the divorce is done?
- What is your legal status once the divorce is filed? Are you still married?
- How does life insurance factor in to an estate plan and what happens to those policies when you get divorced?
- How does estate planning make the lives of your loved ones so much easier?
More About This Week's Guest: Attorney Rebecca Wallenfelsz is a partner at Chapman and Cutler in the Trusts and Estates Department, and has been practicing law since 1997. We often look for peace and happiness from external sources but that path leads to disappointment. In fact, that is often a path to further hurt and trauma. On this episode of The Divorce & Beyond Podcast, Susan Guthrie speaks with Kundalini Yoga Expert, Dya Kaur about the inward path to healing and your new future through yoga, meditation and yes, even a little bit of sex.
Trauma informs our lives in so many ways and can stay in our soul for years after the incident or experience that hurt us. Divorce is often one of the most traumatic experiences that we can undergo and so many individuals have enormous difficulty in moving past that hurt. Leading Kundalini Yoga expert, Dya Kaur of Wanderlust Yoga in Los Angeles, joins Susan on this episode, which was taped in person in California, to share her wisdom and insights from years of teaching the technology of kundalini yoga, meditation, and spiritual life coaching to help people to move past their trauma to heal, live fully and embrace a new future.
Some Highlights from this Episode:
- Learn how the technology of kundalini yoga and meditation give us access to our true nature.
What is kundalini yoga? How is it different from other yoga forms? - How does being more neutral empower us in a painful situation?
- How does elevating our own consciousness help elevate our circumstances?
- Why is the experience of a kundalini class more impactful than a more intellectual self help approach?
- Why is giving yourself authority so important to self transformation?
Living life dragged down by the emotional storms of your past will only rob you of your future. It's time to deal with, and heal from, that old trauma and move forward into your healthy, happy and beautiful new life. Listen to this episode now!
Note: This show was taped at the beginning of the year. The advent of COVID delayed it's release so I am excited to announce that Dya's podcast, Sexual Alchemy with Dya Kaur, is now available! We apologize that the dates referenced in the episode have now passed.
Libby ( Dya Kaur) Hudson Lydecker was given her spiritual name by the master of kundalini yoga, Yogi Bhajan in 1998 meaning “Princess of wisdom, compassion and strength.” Dya Kaur has been teaching kundalini yoga to adults and children for over 13 years. Her passion is empowering people to live their happiest and most enlightened lives through the technology of kundalini yoga and meditation. She is a Spiritual Life coach and runs transformational yoga retreats in inspiring locations. She is honored to be one of the leaders of Guru Singh’s Teacher Training which is the largest kundalini teacher training in the world. She teaches group classes at Yoga West in LOS ANGELES and Wanderlust in Hollywood and is available for private kundalini or coaching sessions in person or remotely by appointment. “I don’t believe in miracles, I rely on them.“ Yogi Bhajan.
